The 4th Monkey is a reference to the famous Japanese proverb "See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil."
But there is a lesser known and very important "4th Monkey" who represents "Do no evil".
The Four Monkeys signify the different ways in which people can choose to ignore evil.
The first monkey, who covers his eyes, is choosing to ignore evil that he sees. The second monkey, who covers his ears, is choosing to ignore evil that he hears. The third monkey, who covers his mouth, is choosing to ignore evil that he speaks. The fourth monkey, who crosses his arms, is choosing to ignore evil that he does.
The 4th monkey is a powerful symbol of the dangers of ignoring evil. It is a reminder that we all have a responsibility to speak out against evil, even when it is difficult.
The divisive power of negative ideas compounded and amplified through social media and technological change has worked to divide us as a people rather than to united us. It is time we spoke out and at least acknowledged this reality. We cannot ignore the ramifications of what we see in the news and our own communities - AND we must act to heal the divide so our nation can continue to prosper.
Here at the 4th Monkey Podcast we want to be part of that positive change and we welcome you to join us.
